The Cardinals are the class of the National League Central
The St Louis Cardinals have steadily increased attendance at Busch but expect to be at full attendance in the stands in June.
It’s been a long time since things have been “normal” at Busch Stadium. After having zero St. Louis Cardinals fans in the stands for all of the shortened 2020, anything is better than nothing.
At the start of the season, Busch Stadium was at about 13,500 in attendance for most home games. The live fan cheers were instantly better than piped-in crowd noise and cardboard cutouts, but it still hasn’t felt like home seeing so many empty seats.
Starting on Wednesday’s game and now expanding into the weekend series with the Cubs, the team announced that attendance would be doubling to around the 66% mark. We haven’t seen the full strength of that and how much better it’ll be, but surely fans will come out loudly for the first time the Cubs have visited Busch Stadium in 600 days.
Because of the Cardinals’ 2020 COVID outbreak, the schedule was amended to only play the Cubs in Chicago, not St. Louis.
While doubling attendance will make a difference, the team announced that on June 14, the limits on attendance will be lifted.
As Derrick Goold wrote in his article on the news, hitting full attendance in mid-June is a month faster than the team had guessed they would be able to return to full capacity. Goold also included that tickets will go on sale on May 26 and that will include some tickets with a price of just $6.
Clearly, the Cardinals are excited to get fans back in the building and fans are glad to oblige. Financially, returning to full attendance should end the largest hit the team had to take as a result of the events in the past 18 months.
The Marlins come to town June 14 and I personally cannot wait to see the reception a full-strength crowd gives them.
