Spend Spring Break Exploring St. Louis!

There’s a meme going around that goes, “They lied. My kids are not a pleasure to have in class.” The kids have endured a lot with remote learning and the general being-cooped-up-ness, so treat them (and yourself) and break out in St. Louis during Spring Break.

We are safely open, and there is much to do. Start off by booking a night or five at one of our fabulous hotels. There are so many great deals and options for every budget. Here’s our full list of hotels – and might we suggest splurging on a suite? But no matter where you land, the change of scenery will do all ages well.

Here are just a few ideas once you’re here. We strongly recommend checking out the places you want to go in advance to understand what their COVID policies are, followed by making reservations in advance (usually required). Then, mask up and have fun!

Kids of All Ages

The Saint Louis Zoo is an outdoor activity for all kids. The Zooline Railroad is especially fun for the little ones. A ticket comes with on/off privileges. It’s usually a little on the cool side in March, and that makes our penguins, sea lions, and polar bear all the more playful. Walk Laumeier Sculpture Park and see some eye-popping imaginative outdoor art – plus in March it features Van McElwee: Time Fork, an augmented reality environment that’s interactive and totally cool. Forest Park has gone through great improvements over the years and just walking around the 1,300 acres exploring the landscapes and ecosystems will enliven all the senses.

Union Station is on your must-visit list. The Grand Hall lounge offers a 3D light show, and just outside is our new 200-foot-high Ferris wheel (“The St. Louis Wheel”) where you can put your pod in a pod (gondola) and float up to the best view of the city. Have the kids burn off some pent-up energy on the cool three-story Ropes Course, then deep dive into the new St. Louis Aquarium.

Wander through 79 acres of lush gardens, landscape architecture, beautiful fountains, greenhouses and conservatories with the entire family at one of the coolest gardens in the country. At Spring time, many of Missouri Botanical Garden’s most popular plants are in bloom including cherry blossoms, tulips, daffodils, dogwoods, peonies, redbuds, azaleas, and more.

… And kids of all ages like to eat! Our restaurants are at 50 percent capacity and ready to serve up those toasted ravs, our special “St. Louis–style” pizza, gooey butter cake, and of course our Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. Just a few especially kid-popular ones include Crown Candy, Fitz’s, the Fountain on Locust, the Parkmoor in Webster Groves, and of course anything on “the Hill,” our Italian neighborhood. Also, check out the unique shops on the Delmar Loop and know our malls and outlet malls are open.

Little Kids

The Magic House is hosting the delightful Dinosaur Train traveling exhibit in addition to all the other interactive displays. Starting March 15, hours will be extended. All ages will enjoy a romp through Citygarden and grabbing a bite at one of the food trucks on site. Check out more for Little Kids!

Big Kids

30 minutes southwest of downtown is Six Flags St. Louis. For the first time in years the park will open in March just in time for spring break. While the Saint Louis Science Center is always a good bet, it’s even better in March because of Mummies of the World: The Exhibition, the largest collection of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled. Check out more for Big Kids!

Teens & Tweens

The National Blues Museum is as entertaining as it is educational, offering high-impact interactive experiences that show how the blues influenced all music, including rap and rock. And the Adventure Valley Zip Line is great for the kids who need adventure (and your need to tire them out). Check out more for Teens & Tweens!

These are just a few ideas. St. Louis is a fast-paced, fun-filled, ever-changing place, so check out explorestlouis.com before coming. Whether you’ve lived here all your life or are just a couple of hours’ drive away, you’ll want to spend Spring Break in St. Louis so you can rediscover it all!
